I’ve read a ton of self-help books that just tell you “be better” and leave you hanging with no real steps. This one is different—the exercises are short, doable, and hit hard in the best way. The “pause and name your emotion” technique from Chapter 4 has become my lifeline; I used to explode the second I felt disrespected at work, but now I catch myself, label the feeling (usually “humiliated” or “powerless”), and respond like an adult instead of a toddler. My team has noticed; last week my boss actually said, “Whatever you’re doing, keep it up.” Finally a book that doesn’t just diagnose the problem; it hands you the toolbox and walks you through using it. Grateful doesn’t even cover it.

Really enjoyed this one – Deloach has such a knack for breaking things down into “why it works” and then giving you steps you can actually do. The bit about grounding through contrast was new to me and honestly feels like a game-changer, though at times the explanations could’ve been a touch tighter. Still, I came away with loads of practical tips (that 90-second rule blew my mind!) and I’m already eyeing up her next book.
