Summary

Wilder

Angels, demons, hellhounds, Nephilim, and a whole host of other non-mortals—my pack of adopted hellhound sons sure knows how to pick a place. And yet somehow, the most interesting one of all is the sad, quiet human who's become friends with the pack. Helping people heal and learn to trust is a specialty of mine, but I don't see Josh as someone to adopt—my hellhound sees him as a mate. The problem? Josh doesn't believe in anything supernatural. Plus, there's the vicious and oddly hard to track ex-boyfriend, the meddling but strangely helpful sheriff, the delicate side project I'm working on, and the immortal evil rich guy running around. As I said, my boys sure know how to pick a town.

Josh

I'm the boring one. No imagination. No fun. In control. My ex-boyfriend taught me to let loose and explore things, but then he changed… or maybe I just realized who he truly was. I want someone who cares for me, not someone who controls me, but I don't think Rick will let me go easily. Everyone is willing to help, though, including the handsome dad of my best friend's boyfriend. My inappropriate feelings for him aren't helping matters, though. Not to mention that the more I hang out with everyone, the more my writer friend's supernatural stories suddenly don't seem so far-fetched. Something is strange about Paradise Falls, and I can't help but think that Wilder is more involved than he lets on.

Tags: It's always the quiet ones (wink, wink); Josh doesn't believe in hellhounds, but they believe in him; Wilder is just the hellhound to give Josh all the comfort and healing he needs; Helene is the best therapist for someone who's been wronged; the entire pack gets involved (of course) and chaos ensues; abusive ex-boyfriends always get what's coming to them; there's torture and death (but only of really bad people); hellhounds have tails, and they know how to use them.

I’ve actually rather guiltily loved the whole series especially the first book “My Toby” but this is my favorite. It actually made me cry. Lovely story.

This is book 4 in this low-angst, quirky paranormal MM romance series, and so far I've found this series to be an entertaining and easygoing kind of read. The books do follow a formula in regards to how the story flows, but if you've gotten to this book, I'm sure you're aware that will be the case, and personally, I find that comforting when I pick these up. I kind of know what I'm getting, which makes these great palate cleanser reads for me. Potential spoilers below.

************

This gives us Josh & Wilder's story. We've known Josh since book one, as he is a close friend of Toby, the human MMC from that book. At the start of this book, Josh leaves an abusive relationship that has been hinted at in the previous books, and the pack surrounds and helps him to do so. Wilder is a first-generation Hellhound and the adoptive dad of the Hellhound characters we have met so far and finds himself drawn to and protective of Josh; he wants nothing more than to see Josh happy. I liked how they communicated and actually listened to each other, but overall their romantic connection felt lacking and rushed compared to previous couples, even for this series, and that is saying something as they are all somewhat insta-lust/lovey.

The overarching plot that is running throughout this series felt somewhat haphazard and rushed here too, unfortunately, and whilst my suspicions regarding a certain character were confirmed in this installment, I wish we had been given more plot-wise than we were. The hellhounds are sweet, loving, and generally bad at acting like humans most of the time, which can create some funny moments. There is banter and plenty of spice, which is detailed and fun to read... I just wish the Hellhounds were doing more Hellhounding, you know? I need a bit more paranormal going on in this paranormal romance.

I enjoyed this, and Alexander Cendese & Iggy Toma are back narrating and are a duo I always have a good time listening to. I think this is a decent addition to the series, but it isn't my favorite compared to previous installments. I'm excited about the next book as it's about two characters that have intrigued me the most... so 🤞🤞 it delivers what I hope it will. Could I go read the ebook now? Sure... but I started this series on audio and will continue it that way, damn it! So I will have to wait till the audiobook drops later this year. 🌶🌶.5

A good addition to the series
