About this listen

A missing baby. A murdered girl. A case where everyone has something to hide....

On the first day of her new job in the West Country, Detective Sergeant Kate Redman finds herself investigating the kidnapping of Charlie Fullman, the newborn son of a wealthy entrepreneur and his trophy wife. It seems a straightforward case...but as Kate and her fellow officer Mark Olbeck delve deeper, they uncover murky secrets and multiple motives for the crime.

Kate finds the case bringing up painful memories of her own past secrets. As she confronts the truth about herself, her increasing emotional instability threatens both her hard-won career success and the possibility that they will ever find Charlie Fullman alive....

Having read the series,I thought I would like the audio version.A good story ruined by the narration

Awful narrator

The narration of this book should surely win a prize for the most dreadful Irish accent, apart from other bad accents and mispronunciations. It would be better not to attempt accents if you can't do them well.

Apalling Narration

I'm still trying to work out the accent of DI Alderton!! The story was intriguing and characterisation strong. Shame about the calibration of narration.

Good plot, weak narrator

The book was ok - it had half decent storyline and the characters had potential, but I have absolutely zero inclination to read the subsequent books after the horrendous narration, in particular the accents. There were a few times I actually involuntarily laughed out loud at how ridiculous they were, and how not like any English accent any of them were. Completely offputting, and I'm dismayed to see that the second book has the same narrator. - i'll give it a miss.

The worst narration I've ever heard

The story was pretty good but I struggled to continue listening to it due to the awful narration. Not sure what accents were being attempted here but they failed miserably!
