About this listen

Danny

I may be young, but I've done a hell of a lot of growing up in the past year. I watched my big brother deal with the challenges of loving someone, went through some medical stuff myself, and changed my career plans and my city. Gaynor Beach is smaller than where I was, but it has two attractions—my brother's big new house, where he's letting me live for now, and Rob Dunn. When I met Rob, just, damn. Like my brother, I wanted to help that sweet, stubborn guy and his cute kids get back on their feet. Maybe the rescue husky wasn't the right gesture, despite Rob’s connection to him, but a dog is love on four paws, and I plan to be there to help all the way.

Rob

I left my abusive husband with my two kids and the clothes on our backs. I'm grateful every day for the support the Gaynor Beach folks have given us…okay, I'm not sure I'm precisely grateful for the rambunctious young husky Danny Reynolds gave us, but Trouble makes my kids smile, and that's a big win in my eyes.

I'm determined to get back on my feet. I hate relying on other people to help us, but somehow it doesn't bother me as much when it comes from Danny. It's nice to have a real friend after all those isolated years, but do I want to keep him in the friend zone?

This slow-burn small-town gay romance novel is about fresh starts, accepting help, two sweet kids, and an adorable husky named Trouble.

I enjoyed this entry in the Gaynor Beach world. The story of Rob, an abused husband (mostly mental abuse/gaslighting, until the blow that makes him leave) and his children is heartfelt and heart-breaking. The beginning felt very realistic, especially the abuser's denials and placing the blame on Rob, and Rob's palpable fear he would lose his children, whom he clearly loves. Rob's escape to wonderful Gaynor Beach, with all the people willing to help him gave his a chance to try to start over and rebuild. He also finds the chance to love again with Danny. This is where the story starts to get a bit unrealistic to me. After what he's been through, Rob seems to trust and heal far too quickly, and the children even more so. The resolution of Rob 's problems, Gerard's trial, and the couple's divorce happened way to quickly and cleanly for the real world.

I think this story is best enjoyed in the fictional world. Forget reality and rationality, and just enjoy the kind and giving people of Gaynor Beach, a place where good guys win, and two people (plus their children and dog) find sweet love and HEA. To me, Gaynor Beach is how the world should be, and I relish it for that, and the break it gives me from harsh reality. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy.

Michael Ferraiuolo's narration is excellent, and the characters really shine through.

Sweet story, but a little unrealistic

If you’re looking for a story about found family coming together to help a person in need- this is the perfect book for you. However the romance plot was unfortunately second fiddle in this book.

Though the audio narration by Michael Ferraiuolo kepte engaged in the story, I agree with other reviewers that the pacing of the book as a whole made the flow of the romantic elements of the plot a bit hard to follow & a bit too unbelievable.

Danny’s family is an absolutely dream though! And I loved how they all come together for each other through the book. This part of Rob’s journey towards healing & finding his footing was lovely.

Gabbi Grey's Husky Love is the fourth book in the Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue series. Grey also wrote the first book in the multi author series Love Furever.

Husky Love is definitely a sequel to Love Furever but they do standalone. I enjoyed the characters in Grey's Gaynor Beach universe, so I'm adding the rest of the books in this series to my tbr shelf.

There are some sensitive subjects Grey tackles: spousal abuse, health issues, adoption of both kids and pets. I must have read this one as a short story though because the storyline is 100% familiar. Gabbi Grey is very generous with their freebies though, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the basis for this novel.

The audio version of Husky Love is nicely performed by Michael Ferraiuolo.

What better way to start off “Pride” month with a visit to Gaynor Beach, one of my favorite places to spend time in, and with Gabbi Grey’s fabulous characters and storylines. “Husky Love” is a story of starting over, finding family and falling in love. Leaving with only the clothes on their backs, Rob Dun took his two kids and left an abusive husband, fearing they would be his next target. Thanks to the kindness of others, they found them a safe location, Gaynor Beach, where James and Colin had a home for them to stay in. It wasn’t easy for Rob to take handouts, but he promised to pay it forward when he could. James’ brother Danny, who wants to become a doctor, is struggling with some classes and keeping his grades up, making him re-evaluate his career choice. When he hears about Colin’s need for a transplant, he could not sit by and do nothing, despite knowing they would object if he took time off from school. When he was back in Gaynor Beach, he and Rob hit is off, really getting one another, and it was the start of a great friendship. It was great watching these two getting to know each other and then see their relationship morph into something so much more. I loved all the layers of the story and how it all plays out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn, but worth the wait romance. Shout out to this found family and their lovely pets, including Trouble, and Widget, too! As always, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Gabbi Grey, thank you for another compelling story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 With Michael Ferraiuolo at the mic, you know it will be a fabulous performance and a gem of a listen. He did an amazing job voicing these characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. I loved his take on the two leads, grasping every aspect of their personalities, including Rob’s insecurities, to his protective and caring side, and his Danny was just as fabulous and caring as well. He was great performing the roles of the secondary/side characters too, children included. His pacing and tone are just right for the story and he captures all the characters’ emotions and has you feeling them all. Michael Ferraiuolo is an entertaining storyteller and his captivating performance keeps you riveted to the story.

This can be read as a standalone even though some of the side characters from the other books show up. I actually thought that I was losing my mind when I first started this cause I was sure I had already read it but that is because all the books overlap in time and this story played out in the background of Love Furever. When I finally realized I was very intrigued to hear this story from Rob and Danny's pov.

This was a very sweet story once again with a tragic backstory. Rob ran with his 2 very young children after his husband abused him. With the help of a social worker named Anthony he gets to a new town and starts over where hopefully his husband won't find him. He is staying in a house donated by a guy with a huge loveable family that includes Danny who offer to help out and he bonds the most with Danny.

The 2 Mcs were both so loveable and I felt so bad for Rob. I was drawn in from the first page and could not put this down til the end. They had great chemisty even though this was a slow burn due to Robs circumstances. It was so cute watching them become best friends and then more. It is low steam but all the sweetness definitely compensated for it. The low steam definitely fit the story line. It was also no angst which I was happy with as the book had enough other drama going on.

Once again the world building was fantastic. I think everyone will want to live in this town with this big sweet family. So many of the side characters stood out and made this story even more wonderful. The mama and sisters and Robs daughter were such a delight.

I loved the story alot and would definitely recommend it.

The narrator did a great job. He expressed the emotions really well and brought the story to life. He kept a good flow and I found his voice/accent pleasant to listen too. He gave all the characters, even the side characters, their own distinct voice that suited each of them perfectly, making it easy to follow the story and a pleasure to listen to.

Tragic but sweet
