Summary
David escapes from the concentration camp where he has spent his entire life and flees across Europe. He is utterly alone – who can he trust? What will await him? And all the while, how can he be sure that they won’t catch up with him...David learns that his polite manner, his haunted eyes and his thin features are strange to other people. He must learn to fend for himself in this strange new world.
This is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas meets Jonathan Safran Foer for children. An incredible story of survival against all odds and self discovery.

Some people take the narrative of his escape from the Romanian concentration camp too seriously. It is an essential but minute part of the story. Therefore, judging it as a book about war and its accuracy of the European scene at the time (as I’ve seen other people do) isn’t the right way to look at it.
The book’s real focus is on David’s, journey through Europe, socialisation, individual growth, pure morality and discovery of a God that isn’t attached to an institution.
It is a truly beautiful book that I believe any reader would enjoy. Whilst it was read by many of us as children, it still stands strong as one of the greatest European novels ever written and is still highly appealing to all readers. I recommend to all.
Amazing narration of my favourite childhood novel
