Summary

An unforgettable YA debut by Jamison Shea.

Ace of Spades meets House of Hollow in a thrilling horror novel about the toll of giving everything to a world that will never love you back.

Laure Mesny is determined to make it in the cutthroat world of ballet, and she will do anything to prove that this Black girl can take centre stage. Anything.... Even if it means entering into a bargain with a primordial power in the Catacombs beneath Paris.

Laure is promised influence and adoration - and she gets it. But that alone is not enough, not for the cruel and privileged people who surround her. Her climb to stardom leaves broken bodies in her wake, some of which aren't her doing. As she finds herself deep within this monstrous world, she is faced with the ultimate choice: will she retreat or succumb to the darkness forever?

THERE WILL BE BLOOD.

The narrator for this book was incredible. I reread some chapters 3 times just to experience the intensity of the scenes again before moving on to the rest of the story. If you love Addie Laurie and Hannibal you'll recognize some beautiful themes in this book.
It balances the hard work and diligence of a ballerina, with the extreme need to just break free. The horror and gore is elegantly balanced, that even the more horrific scenes leave your in awe wanting more.

There are layers to this story with themed about society and personal growth, and much more, to be further explored in a reread for me!

I'm already excited for the sequel!

The perfection of a ballerina to it's extreme

Jamison Shea's 'I Feed Her to the Beast, and the Beast Is Me' is a mesmerizing dance between the mundane and the supernatural, set against the backdrop of a Parisian ballet company. The intricate ballet references and the stark portrayal of a company's disregard for its dancers added depth to the story.

What truly captivated me was how the supernatural elements seamlessly intertwined with the narrative. The climax, while not a shocking twist, was a brave departure from the expected, making the story stand out.

While I initially read an advanced copy on Kindle, I just had to get the physical book, I even dabbled in the audiobook, which offered a unique experience, though it altered my mental character voices.

Laure Mesny's journey, fraught with ambition and dark bargains, is a gripping one. The story left me pondering its nuanced themes long after I finished. 'I Feed Her to the Beast, and the Beast Is Me' is a recommended read, especially for those who appreciate the blend of the supernatural with the arts. It reminded me of 'Tiny Pretty Things,' but with a darker, more enthralling twist.

The title sold it!
