About this listen

They say you can’t go home again…

especially if you’re the governing mind for an interstellar military starship.

It's official: Sergeant Henry Morgan has now spent more time as a starship than he spent dead. His mission is more than a century old, but in some ways, he feels like it's just begun.

A desperate distress call from Earth has brought him back to his old cosmic stomping grounds, for your standard save-humanity-from-extinction-by-alien-constructs operation.

But Henry needs to realize something: while his species might be the new kid on the galactic block, it is not without its secrets. Many of them deep and dark, with implications that reach back to the time when he himself walked the Earth on two legs.

In some ways, humanity has become more alien than the extraterrestrials. And if Henry can't figure out what this means—fast—he's going to have serious problems keeping himself and his crew safe.

I loved this story’s mix of philosophy, dark humour, and big ideas. The crew travels between stars, sleeping through their decades-long journeys, so they live across multiple generations of humanity while barely ageing themselves. The contrast between their slow subjective time and Earth’s rapid change is fascinating. The ship’s computer - which is a human mind - adds a darkly humorous and thought-provoking dimension: he believes he’s alive, while everyone else treats him as just a program.

The story that spans generations

This is a fantastic story. It is Part 2. It contains the audiobook for the ebooks "The Earth We Knew" and "Revolution Space." The books are well written. Lots of action, some space battles, and characters I loved and hated. Very interesting, I never got bored. The narrator did a great job. I look forward to more books in the series!

Very entertaining!

Narration is on form, nice range of voices/accents from Mark Boyett mean you know who's talking without being told.

Story has nice pacing, there's some good ongoing threads woven through from earlier books. Although seemingly key elements from earlier appear to have been sidelines.

Did have issues when i started listening though. I'd read I, Starship as a Kindle book, so was eager to listen to. Unforunately this is book 3 and 4 of the stories. I starship was book 1. So had to track down a copy of book 2 before I could listen.

Worth it though.

A good listen just confusing name
