About this listen

For fans of books from Chris Jericho, Steve Austin, Daniel Bryan, Mick Foley and Jim Ross.

'We have all felt every emotion today. Remember today, the next time a family member or workmate tells you that wrestling is stupid. We've laughed, we've cried, we've screamed our lungs out. Professional wrestling is the greatest thing in the entire world.' - Jim Smallman, 2016

Comedian and PROGRESS Wrestling founder Jim Smallman takes us on a wild ride through the history of pro-wrestling, from its beginnings at the turn of the twentieth century to the pop-culture, pay-per-view juggernaut that it is today.

Join Jim as he looks at the most defining and iconic moments in wrestling's history and attempts to nail down just why this ludicrous, over the top, compelling quasi-sport means so much to so many people.

Really enjoyable overview of pro wrestling for a relative newcomer, filling in a lot of the gaps. Will make me an asset at the pre-wrestlemania pub quiz. Is a history of men's pro wrestling though, would have loved a little more on the history-making women who were mentioned a little too briefly

Wonderful overview

I didn’t know why I loved professional wrestling until I read this book. I have been a fan for a few years and sometimes I feel isolated from the WWE for the sexist storylines, even at the moment with Mandy Rose/Usos. But I love it for the performance. Jim Smallman brilliantly explains why I love to hate and love to love wrestling. To myself, I have to say ‘I’m sorry’ that I love wrestling and to wrestling, ‘I love you.’

This book explained to me why I love wrestling

I’m not a massive fan of wrestling. I drift in and out of watching it after being a huge fan as a youngster in the mid 90’s. I do like to keep up with the goings on here and there as well as going to the odd live show of Progress. This book is very entertaining with a great narration by Jim himself but most of all surprisingly educational to anyone with the merest of interest in the business of wrestling.

Well worth the money.

Surprisingly good

Cheers Jim. This was a great listen.

As a kid I was a huge wrestling fan, but fell out of love with it just before the Attitude Era, with CM Punk's Pipe Bomb dragging me back in. So this was a lovely way to hear more about an era I missed, as well the history of the sport before I was born.

A Great Listen
