Summary

As a librarian, Imogen read a lot of books, but none of them covered real life on the Riviera.

Her holiday with tennis ace Nicky and the whole glamorous coterie of journalist, playboy, photographer was a revelation. But the path of a jet-set virgin in that lovely wicked world was a hard one. Imogen began to wonder if virtue really was its own reward....

I mogen along with other early characters of Jillys remind me of me. Wear the wrong thing, say the wrong thing and do the wrong thing
Have read Imogen so many times I was speaking the words before the narrator.. I love it 😁

Always loved this book.

Great old favourite- definitely of its time but narrator was just dreadful - accents all over the place and mispronouncing so many words. The curating curate stuck in my mind.

Love the old story - silly and very funny (but of its time) HATED the narration.

I have read this book over and over since my youth and I was excited to find the audiobook version, but the narration is so terrible, it really ruined the whole thing. The same narrator that did hatchet job on this book also butchered Emily - mispronunciation, incorrect reading of the text, and a terrible array of accents, apart from a few acceptable Northern accents. I really don’t understand how such a terrible narration would have been released - it’s embarrassing to listen to and totally detracts from what is a great (if dated) story.

Spoiled by an appalling narrator

I have to give this 5 Stars despite the performance. I have to agree with others about the different accents but for me it didn’t detract from the magic of the story. My personal favourite of Jilly Cooper’s earlier stories, I read all these books at the time they were published and they are still in my bookcase, now feeling their age with very small writing. I have so enjoyed listened to this story, it’s obviously very dated and really quite demure but such joy in bringing back memories of a more innocent time and of my youth. My other favourite in this series is Octavia which hasn’t as yet been added to Audible but I’ll keep an eye out for it.

The years roll back !!

Naive and simpering, fun of course dates but then it was published in 1979 - not woke!! 😬 . Jarred with some of the narration, Gillette pronounced Gilet! Psalm as Palm!!

Classic Jilly!
