In the UK, someone is reported missing every 90 seconds.
Just gone. Vanished. In the blink of an eye.

DCS Kat Frank knows all about loss. A widowed single mother, Kat is a cop who trusts her instincts. Picked to lead a pilot programme that has her paired with AIDE (Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity) Lock, Kat's instincts come up against Lock's logic. But when the two missing person's cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal.

AI versus human experience.
Logic versus instinct.
With lives on the line can the pair work together before someone else becomes another statistic?

In the Blink of an Eye is a dazzling debut from an exciting new voice and asks us what we think it means to be human.

Really enjoyed listening to this

Can see it developing into a series with the relationships for the team growing.

Interesting, intelligent and witty. Excellent narration. Rare to read Ella set in the west Midlands, which captures diversity and landscape.

Fast and fun

Was not sure about the subject matter, but as it was recommended I thought I would give it a go. I was hooked quickly. It is a police procedural with a difference, but the reader gets to know the various characters and how they tick. I did not want it to end, although of course it had to!

A great read.

I doubt I’ll remember it for long. The story progressed well. I was distracted occasionally by lazy grammar, or bits of story that were inconsistent. It was fairly enjoyable to listen to and i didn’t guess the ‘ending’. But the book didn’t end there. It waffled on for a few more chapters and I’d have preferred a short epilogue. It felt as if the author was aiming for a series, which I think would be a mistake. I couldn’t decide whether to give it three or four stars, but gave it four because the narration was pretty good.

Quite a good story but …

Good to read something with a new and interesting story. Clever. Narration a bit wooden, which suited the AI character well, but perhaps not the others. Good enough for me to want to read the next one.

Really thought-provoking book
