About this listen

Author Virginia Black burst onto the queer speculative fiction scene with her powerful debut, Consecrated Ground. Now Joan of Crows returns to Calvert in this high-octane thriller that pits good versus evil in a penultimate showdown.

War witch Joan Matthews wants little more than to build a life with Leigh Phan. Their hometown is rebuilding under Joan's protection, but not everyone is happy with her solution to the most recent vampire crisis.

Meanwhile, Leigh's bloodling powers lead to unforeseen consequences, and Joan is forced to honor a favor owed to a dangerous foe. Neither knows a greater threat lurks behind seemingly unrelated attacks across the land.

Together, Joan and Leigh once saved the town of Calvert. Now that they are separated, each must learn to save herself, or all their gains will be forfeited—and everyone they know will pay the price.

This is another great episode in this new harsh world.
The weak struggle to survive, to find sancuary, and the vampires get stronger.
Love always wins, no matter what happens. 💖

Incendiant is the second book of Virginia Black's excellent 'Joan of the Crows' series. VB writes the sort of books I want to hear Trei Taylor read, a top notch combination. I doubt many narrators could pull off VB's books, they are dramatic and traumatising whilst weaving a love story through it's nuanced pages.
I did think it spent a little too much time in the build up but once it got there well, just well ! The character development was good (I wanted to have Joan punch Dayton more than once though ), leigh certainly came into her own.
I wonder if there is a Book Three because there is quite a bit left unanswered which I find frustrating after waiting for the sequel for so long ! Top tip 'No Shelter but the Stars', by the same author is also excellent !

Incendiary !
