About this listen

An American visitor to India is killed on the road from Bombay to Poona. Called in to investigate the murder, Inspector Ghote soon makes the acquaintance of the victim's brother, Professor Gregory Strongbow. But the professor is both stubborn and evasive, refusing to tell Ghote what he knows about the events leading up to Hector's death. Soon Ghote finds his own life in danger, as he is faced with a conspiracy that reaches to the very highest levels of Indian politics...

This is the third book in the hugely popular Inspector Ghote series from H.R.F. Keating.

Have you listened to any of Sam Dastor’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, he's a good narrator. This is not one of my favourites, but it's OK.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it's very long. It was good to listen to it over a couple of days while doing housework though.

Any additional comments?

It would help if someone had listened through to this before publishing it. There is at least one place where the narrator stutters, stops, tuts and repeats himself. I suppose it lent a realistic air to the narration - as though it were really being read to you by someone in the room - but a conscientious editor would have noticed and sorted it out.

Great story and narration, but sack the editor!

Love this series of detective novels set in India. The story moves along at a fast pace in the colourful setting of India. From start to finish it is a page turner! Hope the author adds to Detective Ghote’s life!

The wonderful Reader brings the novel to life with his vocal tone which is easy on the ears! Amazed at his ability to do all the accents, add drama to these voices therefore bring the story to life in a very real way! Well done, your a Master of this Art!
