Tokyo is particularly abundant in illumination spots and it seems that in 2016 in Minato Ward, which includes Roppongi, there were over 30 locations for viewing Christmas illuminations. クリスマスシーズンが迫ると、多くの国で町を彩るのがクリスマスイルミネーションです。
日本でのクリスマスイルミネーションの先駆けは、銀座の明治屋。1904年の12月にイルミネーションを灯し、当時、大きな話題になったといわれています。
現在のような、冬に町や公園を彩る大掛かりなイルミネーションは、1981年に北海道札幌市の大通公園で始まったといわれています。
東京は特にイルミネーションスポットが豊富で、2016年には六本木がある港区では、30ヵ所以上でクリスマスイルミネーションが行われたといわれます。
