Purikura are photo booths in places like arcades where users can create stickers from photographs they take in the booth. プリクラとは、日本語の「プリント倶楽部」の略称で、ゲームセンターなどに置かれている、ブースで撮った写真からシールを作るプリントシール機のこと。
機械の前で希望のフレームや背景を選択してボタンを押すと、数分ほどで切手大の写真シールができます。
撮影後の写真に落書きや化粧などの加工も可能で、画像をメールで送ることもできます。
1995年に登場すると女子中高生の間で大ヒットし、お互いのシールを交換して特別なアルバムに貼るのが流行しました。
現在では、プリクラの機械を30台近く集めたプリクラショップや、アーティストや有名なキャラクターなどと一緒に写せる、コラボプリクラ専門店なども好評です。
