 Located at the western tip of Kanagawa Prefecture, Hakone has flourished since the Edo period as a highly desirable hot spring spot among regular people. 神奈川県の西の端に位置する箱根は、江戸時代から、庶民の憧れの温泉地として栄えました。
明治時代には外国人専用の富士屋ホテルが繁盛し、国際的なリゾートとしても有名になりました。
現在も、周辺都市からのアクセスが便利な観光地として人気です。
箱根には温泉のほか、箱根神社や、富士山を望める芦ノ湖、火山活動が見られる大涌谷、自然に囲まれた美術館など、見どころがたくさんあります。

箱根は険しい山道が多いことでも有名ですが、その坂道を大学生たちが駆け抜ける箱根駅伝は、日本のお正月の風物詩になっています。
