 Hiraizumi in Iwate Prefecture was the political, economic, and cultural center of the Tohoku region from the Heian to the Kamakura period. 岩手県の平泉は、平安時代から鎌倉時代にかけて、東北地方の政治や経済、文化の中心地だった場所です。
平泉を治めたのは、平安貴族の流れを汲む奥州藤原氏。彼らは親子3代にわたって、数々の寺院を建てました。
