 Buddhist Monuments in the Horyuji Area make up a World Heritage Site consisting of the 47 buildings of Horyuji Temple and the neighboring Hokiji Temple with its three-storied pagoda. 世界遺産の「法隆寺地域の仏教建造物群」は、法隆寺の47棟の建物と、近隣の法起寺三重塔からなります。
このうち、法隆寺の建物10棟と法起寺三重塔は、1300年以上前に建てられた世界最古の木造建築物です。
これらの建物は古いだけでなく、姿が美しく、後世の建築に大きな影響を与えたことも、世界遺産に登録された大きな理由です。
また、いずれの寺も、日本の仏教史に大きな役割を果たしました。特に法隆寺は、仏像彫刻だけでも650体を有する、仏教美術の宝庫としても知られます。
