Summary

 Ise Jingu is affectionately known as "O-Ise-san". Its formal name is "Jingu". 「お伊勢さん」の名で人々から親しまれている伊勢神宮。正式な名前を「神宮」といいます。
伊勢神宮には内宮（皇大神宮）と外宮（豊受大神宮）という2つの大きなお宮があり、内宮には、日本神話の中で最も位の高い神である天照大御神が祀られています。
伊勢神宮では、外宮、内宮の順に参拝するのが習わし。外宮は左側通行、内宮は右側通行になっています。
伊勢神宮に参拝することを「お伊勢参り」と呼び、江戸時代には、「死ぬまでに一度はお伊勢参りを」といわれるほどでした。
参拝の後には、内宮の前に広がる「おはらい町」で、食べ歩きをするのもお伊勢参りの醍醐味の一つです。
