 Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture developed as one of Japan's port towns after the ports were opened in the last days of Edo shogunate. 神奈川県の横浜は、幕末の開港以降、日本を代表する港町の一つとして発展しました。開港当時から賑わっていたのが、現在の元町・中華街エリアです。
当時、日本最大の外国人居留地があったこの地域には、中華街があり、明治時代の西洋建築も多く、異国情緒にあふれています。
中華街は、開港後にやってきた中国商人たちが住んだ場所。現在は300店舗以上が集まり、中華街としては東アジア最大規模を誇ります。
かつて、外国人のために経営していた商店が立ち並んでいた元町は、現在はおしゃれな商店街として人気です。
