About this listen

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes a legendary standalone novel that navigates the seas and the stars of a far-future Cosmere. Narrated by Kaleo Griffith and Jennifer Jill Araya.

All his life, Sixth of the Dusk has been a traditional trapper of Aviar—the supernatural birds his people bond with—on the deadly island of Patji. Then one fateful night he propels his people into a race to modernize before they can be conquered by the Ones Above, invaders from the stars who want to exploit the Aviar.

But it’s a race they’re losing, and Dusk fears his people will lose themselves in the effort. When a chance comes to sail into the expanse of the emberdark beyond a mystical portal, Dusk sets off to find his people’s salvation with only a canoe, his birds, and all the grit and canniness of a Patji trapper.

Elsewhere in the emberdark is a young dragon chained in human form: Starling of the starship Dynamic. She and her ragtag crew of exiles are deep in debt and on the brink of losing their freedom. So when she finds an ancient map to a hidden portal between the emberdark and the physical realm, she seizes the chance at a lucrative discovery.

These unlikely allies might just be the solution to each other’s crisis. In their search for independence, Dusk and Starling face perilous bargains, poisonous politics, and the destructive echo of a dead god.

Sanderson expands his thrilling novella “Sixth of the Dusk” into a mythic novel of legends, lore, and warring galactic superpowers.

This book was the perfect combination of expanding on the universe and opening new questions to explore. Whilst a little slower to get going than some others he has, this is only due to making the book accessible to those who havnt read sixth of dusk (which I for one appreciated) it also makes me excited for the ghostbloods books in order to see the future of scadrial

Another Sanderson masterpiece

I've read (or actually listened to) all of Sanderssons books. And since they don't last forever, I also listen to *a lot* of other books, generally going through about one book every week.

While there certainly are other good books, what always strikes me when I listen or relisten to Sanderssons works is that I love pretty much every single one.

This one is no exeption. I was equal parts exited and worried about the Cosmere advancing in time and shifting from fantasy to sci-fi, because although I certainty enjoy sci-fi too I wasn't sure Sandersson could pull it off. Thing is, he didn't need to, because space fantasy is a marvellous genre too, and with this and the Sunlit Man being the first two books set in the later era, I'm nothing but excited for the things that will come later, and pretty damn sure I'll appreciate Sanderssons titles for as long as keeps writing them, and I am alive to enjoy them.

This is getting ridiculous.

At first I questioned as to if I had started another book accidentally then realised how two stories came together so fantastically and cleverly.
Absolutely loved this book it's definitely a top rating from me 👍

Light, but with depth. Get to understand more of the Cosmere. A quick read. The short story, Sixth of the Dusk, is incorporated in the book. Works well. And it’s a nice recap as it’s a while since I read that too.

Another good secret project
