Not to start with hyperbole, but this YA Dystopian novel has all the hallmarks of a new classic. If you're a fan of Lois Lowry's The Giver, you'll love this. As Orwell's 1984 is as relevant today, as it was in 1948, so It Began With a Whisper will resonate with audiences young and old alike. The story has Orwellian themes, but, like The Giver, it's protagonist is youthful, but aware of social indoctrination. It's a compelling tale.
Narrator Peter McGiffen does a great job of bringing the cast of characters to life.
5☆ recommended.
