Summary

Parenting can be such an overwhelming job that it's easy to lose track of where you stand on some of the more controversial subjects at the playground (What if my kid likes to rough house - isn't this ok as long as no one gets hurt? And what if my kid just doesn't feel like sharing?). In this inspiring and enlightening book, Heather Shumaker describes her quest to nail down "the rules" to raising smart, sensitive, and self-sufficient kids. Drawing on her own experiences as the mother of two small children, as well as on the work of child psychologists, pediatricians, educators and so on, in this book Shumaker gets to the heart of the matter on a host of important questions.

Where should I start, I don't really know. The narrator is excellent. The book is practical, easy to follow, every chapter provides new information and tools that are easy to put into action in real life. One of the best parenting books that I have read, and I have read quite a few! A must read for all parents (and educators).

I have come back to this book many times! It has great examples on how to help young children navigate through conflict.

one of the best positive discipline books I've read, it has a few new ideas which I've really enjoyed plus the obvious, how to take long turns which after 4 months it really really works with my 5 and 3 yo children. I also liked the 'how to deal with conflict ' section. Just great
