About this listen

Jem and Tean: Guys Gone Wild is a collection of short stories. It includes the following:

  • “First Dates”: A prequel to The Lamb and the Lion books, this short story shows Jem and Tean as they are set up on blind dates—with disastrous results.
  • “Cheap Seats”: Jem and Tean go to the movies. Jem insists it’s an epic bromance date. Tean insists they’re just casual acquaintances. When their movie is sold out, Jem tries to score tickets another way, while Tean insists that he does so without lying or breaking the law.
  • “Supertrope: The Birthday Episode”: In an homage to the television supertrope of a birthday episode, this short story features Tean trying to plan the perfect birthday party for Jem after learning that Jem has never had one.
  • “Jem + Tean: Guys Gone Wild”: A collection of six vignettes from Jem and Tean’s weekend at a cabin in the Wasatch Mountains.

Please note that the first three stories have distributed previously to mailing list subscribers.

“Jem + Tean: Guys Gone Wild” is exclusively available in this collection.

As is always the case with these collections, most of the stories were available as 'extras' via the author's newsletter, although there's also one completely new one included at the end. I read "First Dates" (a prequel to bk 1, The Same Breath, in which Jem and Tean go on unsuccessful dates, separately), "Cheap Seats" (between The Same Breath and The Same Place, in which the guys go to the movies) and "The Birthday Episode" (between The Same Place and The Same End, in which Tean decides to celebrate Jem's birthday after he learns he's never had a birthday party) when they first appeared (and I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard as when I read "Cheap Seats"!). The fourth - and final - story is new and set post The Same End, so Jem & Tean are in the early days of couple-dom and are as cute as ever).

I always like these little glimpses of "normal" the author gives us in these vignettes, of moments when the guys are having a bit of a break from being beaten up, shot at or put through the wringer, and these short stories manage to be funny and upbeat while staying true to the characters.

Jem & Tean series 2 is coming in Feb, so this release is timely :)

I would happily listen to J.F. Harding read a shopping list, so having him in my ears again, reading words by one of my favourite authors is a treat; his portrayals of Jem and Tean are perfect and he absolutely gets their dynamic.

Charming, funny and expertly narrated

Although I enjoyed the ebook, I enjoyed the audiobook more, both for Jeff Harding's narration and because of seeing Jem and Tean not only in their own series but also in the Iron on Iron series.
These short stories give a foundation to Jem's sometimes unsavoury behaviours and Tean's anxieties. As well as, explaining why they work so well together.
This collection made me smile, cringe, and laugh and ultimately left me with a warm feeling.

I feel like Greg knows exactly how much pain you can take and fills the gaps with these amazing shorts so that you’ll keep coming back again and again. I love Jem and Tean so very much and getting to see them in their element is always a treat.

Greg always delivers!
