About this listen

Find your focus – wherever you're working – with Joy at Work.

Marie Kondo's first book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying, sparked a new genre of books and became an international bestseller. Now, for the first time, you will be guided through the process of tidying up your work life. Whether you are unexpectedly working at home or if you have a dedicated work space or office, if you properly simplify and organize your work life once, you’ll never have to do it again.

In Joy at Work, KonMari method pioneer Marie Kondo and organizational psychologist Scott Sonenshein will help you to refocus your mind on what's important at work, and as their examples show, the results can be truly life-changing. With advice on how to improve the way you work, the book features advice on problem areas including fundamentals like how to organize your desk, finally get through your emails and find balance by ditching distractions and focusing on what sparks joy.

Like how the key to successful tidying in the home is by tackling clutter in the correct order, Joy at Work adapts the inspirational KonMari Method for your professional life, taking you step-by-step through your working day so that you can identify the most joyful way to work for you. Once you’ve found order in your work, you can feel empowered to find confidence, energy and motivation to create the career you want and move on from negative working practices.

The advice was useful but the narrators were distracting. The man spoke in a very odd way and almost sounded like Kermit at times.

Overall fine, but not much add on if you’ve read the previous Marie Kondo books. It’s all very obvious. Obvious is not bad, but I’d not be able to finish if it was not an audio book.

But there is a glaring issue - both authors have no idea what people do at work. Not only it’s not realistic for 2026, but it’s not even representing the job market in the last 15 years or so. Stereotypical examples. They should heavily revise the book after spending a year in different countries and organisations really seeing what work is. An academic and a freelancer/business owner, maybe unsurprisingly, got it wrong.

Positively, like the two voices switching and talking, makes it more interesting to listen to. Short book, prescriptive, but obvious.

Quick, tidying book but authors don’t know what people do at work.

No. no no no. Not only is this womans voice just utterly unbearably annoying but she isn't saying anything of value either.

I struggled through two hours of this before giving up, let me save you the pain:
"Stop living like a tramp, tidy your ... up".
There you go, 5 hours of monotonous boring bla summed up into one single sentence which you probably learned when you were 5.

Atleast the first 4 chapters of this book are realy very boring and unhelpful.
For anyone that was brought up right and already knows the value of keeping your surroundings clean and tidy, this book will not give you joy or bring anything new or valuable to your life.

Just no.
