Summary

In this full-length Just William novel, William and the Outlaws decide to form the Knights of the Square Table, 'rightin' wrongs' for a minor fee ('Small wrongs: sixpence. Big wrongs: one shillin'.) In their quest to earn enough money to become tramps, they stop at no amount of do-gooding, embarking on a plan to marry off their older brothers. William becomes a veritable Don Juan as he woos a visiting film star for his brother (much to the surprise and annoyance of his brother's girlfriend.) Soon the gang have planned a midnight haunting to scare off old monkey face from the big house on the hill - after all, where else will they find a home for the happy young couple? Personally I'm a huge fan of Martin Jarvis's interpretation of the Just William stories and thus my rating is biased from the outset. It's not the longest audio book and is a shame it isn't available unabridged, but is superbly read, funny, and should appeal to all ages. My children all adore these stories as do my own parents. Whenever we're in the car together, it is the Just William stories that get the unanimous vote, and this particular book is the one selected the most often.
If you haven't heard any of these stories before, then it is well worth a listen. You are introduced to all of the characters, so doesn't matter that this wasn't the first William book, and Jarvis reads it so wonderfully that it is a few hours of total enjoyment. I loved it!

once again Martin Jarvis narrates excellently . I Love these 'books', it would be helpful if the stories didn't repeat quite so much-it's possible to buy the book to find most of the stories covered in the BBC compilation's. Still a 'jolly good listen' !

I loved this story as a kid when i had it on cassette. Unfortunately this has the ending cut off for some reason which ruins it slightly.

I liked that it was a story I hadn’t heard before I also like that it was one long story instead of lots of little ones and like always I liked the fact that it could be true.
