I don't know where the narrator picked up his British English and Scottish (I was waiting for an "och aye tha noo"), but as a native speaker of both, they were, frankly, awful. Couldn't he just have used dialects/accents of American English? The story itself is a classic D&D romp, so if you can get past the narrator's dodgy accents, the story is quite enjoyable.

I've listened to all the Greyhawk adventures so far. I enjoyed the stories with the Justicar: they had some good jokes, exciting situations and memorable characters.

This story doesn't. It's basically an account of a group of adventurers that arrive at a keep and plan an excursion against bandits. All the characters are annoying and non-memorable. The scenery doesn't evoke a sense of wonder. Nothing much to recommend.

I only read this book because I was thinking of running the Keep on the Borderlands as was looking to lift some plot hooks out of it (plot hooks being something that the original module lacks). Sadly, there was very little worth plundering. There is no great threat to the keep and if anything the heroes are the ones that start all the violence. There is no real main villain, bar an evil priest who is dead within pages of his first appearance. There is a tiny subplot of traitors in the keep but this handled off camera and not by the protagonists. So, as an aid for running the adventure there is little to help here. As a standalone book, don’t even bother. Go and read some proper fantasy like Abercrombie, Gemmell, Hobbs, Martin, Pratchett or Tolkien.
