About this listen

Kyle Spencer is the king of country music.
She’s the city girl, sent to talk him into returning to the stage…

Piper Egan landed her dream job straight out of college—working at Empire Records. But instead of discovering new talent and changing lives, like she’d hoped, her time is spent taking meeting notes and catering to spoiled celebrities. When the chance to change that finally appears, she should be thrilled.

Unfortunately, Piper’s promotion involves the charming cowboy she’s spent years attempting to avoid. And flying to middle of nowhere, Texas, in a desperate attempt to talk the king of country music into returning to the stage.

It’s a work trip with no boundaries. Piper is determined to head back to New York with a signed contract in hand, no matter what it takes. But that plan becomes complicated when she’s greeted by a scowl instead of Kyle’s trademark grin. Becomes challenging when she glimpses the genuine guy beneath the superstar. Becomes impossible when she learns the reason he walked away from the spotlight.

When she realizes…her only plan should have been to protect her heart.

This is such a fabulous book, my first written by C.W. Farnsworth, and I enjoyed her writing style, her creative and the originality of the story and its interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. The characters were realistic, likable and easy to relate to and connect with. Piper Egan works at Empire Records, hoping to become a talent scout and discover new artists one day. Kyle Spencer is the label’s biggest and well-known artists and when he came in for a meeting, it surprised him that Piper did not know who he was, which does not happen often in his world. She intrigued him, and felt an instant attraction, but she did not swoon over him like most women, and even expressed her dislike for country music. When Kyle declined to extend his contract with the label, they asked Piper to go to Texas and try to change his mind and get him to sign the contract promising her a promotion to the A & R, artist development side. So off she goes and as a city girl her whole life, she enters a whole different world, a farm in Texas, one that looks like it seen had better days. To top that off was a not so friendly or very welcoming Kyle Spencer, making her think his whole friendly act when he visited her office was just that an act. Getting ready to turn around, his aunt, Mabel, asks her if she was giving up on him already, but she was in it for the long haul, not giving up on him until her boss, Carl, called her back to the office. So Mabel invited her to stay in the guest house, which was not much, but it was something. Kyle does not want her there, but his angst lightens up and they spend time together and wind up getting to know each other. She is realistic with him, knowing he was not changing his mind and when she learns why he made that decision, she understands him better. I thought these two were great together and for each other. They danced around each other for a while before making any moves and just when the going gets good, she gets called back to the office. I loved how everything played out in this book, the complexity of the characters was fantastic, as was the character growth and development and the world building, too. It is a wonderfully plotted story and has the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, a so worth the wait slow burn romance. I loved the little twist near the end too, never saw that one coming. C.W. Farnsworth, thank you for this wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did a fabulous job bringing these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting and were believable in every role they played. Webber pulled it off as Kyle, first as the swoon worthy country star and then as the angsty grump. Arndt nailed it as Piper, grasping all sides of her personality, her strength and determination to succeed, as well as her caring and understanding side. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These mega talented voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.

New to me author. I’m glad I took a chance because I quite enjoyed this. This was a light read but it did hold some emotion throughout the story. It’s a small-town romance that is based around the music industry. It ticks off a range of my favourite tropes. If you like the tropes: force proximity, hot banter, he falls first, small town and scene that will make you swoon then this book is perfect for you! I highly recommend it!

4.5 STARS!

I melted at the first mention of Blue Rain Boots, and honestly the rest is history. This performance, swept me up, and the next thing I knew it was over.

Now I’m not a city or a country girl, so it might only be me thing, but this narration embodied the contrast of city and country, don’t ask me to explain because I can’t, I felt how I felt.

And those boots!! They were like a character themselves, in fact they were my fave character, just wouldn’t have been the same without them.

I appreciated every second of their argumentative banter, riling each other up in all the ways you crave in this kind of romance, and while it might not be high-spice, that ending left me on a whole new kind of high.

Dual Narration ♥️

🎧🎧AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🎧🎧

If you're reading this, and you have yet to experience this story or this author, DO IT NOW!

Seriously, RIGHT NOW!

I’ve had the worst luck the last couple of months with my reading/listening experiences and this book just swooped right in and erased every single frustration I’d been carrying around over these stories! I mean it just bulldozed right thru the entire stack and made my heart sing loud and off key lol!! (obvs, not every single book has frustrated me these last couple of months, but the count is really high, and I was getting #twitchy)

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Standing ovation round of applause for C.W. Farnsworth for writing such and effortless story and to Zachary Webber & Andi Arndt for their flawless narration!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It was so easy to get lost in this low-angst but deeply emotional, fun and witty, good-vibe swoony story! I was lost in the town and the people and both Piper & Kyle’s growth as individuals and as romance partners. Everything about this experience was attractive and felt so very real. Listening to their story felt like I was part of the story, and I can’t say for certain that reading it would have been the same, but something tells me it would have been. I found the writing flawless, the characters well developed and the story itself very realistic.

The only aspect of the story that I would have liked to be fleshed out a bit more was Kyle’s past, especially when it came to his mother, stepfather, and half-sibling. It’s good as it is, but it would have made his growth throughout the story much more impactful had it been delved into a bit more. There’s a whole lot about his past that dictates his present circumstances and choices and for me, I would have wanted to maybe have some flashbacks to those pivotable moments when he made decisions that made him the man he is today. Honestly, I loved Kyle & Piper and their story so much that I just wanted every single detail about them LOL

I’m very impressed with this author right now and I can’t wait to experience more of her stories very soon!

I only bought this because I'm a huge fan of Zachary Webber and usually his books performing with Andi Arndt are excellent. This was decidedly lack lustre. The story had no excitement and really did not hold my interest.

Unexciting despite the narrators' best efforts
