About this listen

Treachery hangs ominously over the Roman Empire and sparks of Christian fervour have spread through the empire like wildfire. The battle-bloodied general Ballista returns to the imperial court from the fallen city of Arete only to find that there are those who would rather see him dead than alive.

As I said in my review of book 1, the author, for some reason, wants to show off his knowledge of Latin. For example, early in the book he used ten or so words / titles followed by the word ‘emperor’. Why? Who cares or even understands these words? Just save time and call him the emperor.

That said, I’m now on book three. Struggling to see what’s going to happen to Ballista after what happened at the end of book two.

Enjoyed this one, straight after the first in the series.
