Summary

The last war was fought with weapons unimaginable....

A war was fought. Humanity lost.

Time for a rematch.

The world fell, the invaders won, and demons now ruled what had once been man's domain. The great works of a once powerful civilization lie in ruins, its people having forgotten the wonders of their forefathers as they now live in the yoke. Not everyone is willing to go quietly into the endless night, however, and for every inch of ground they'd won, they had paid in blood and bone. At the end of it all, however, the demons stood victorious and all that was left to accomplish was the final cleanup of the human pests that infested occasional parts of the conquered world.

In one nearly uninhabitable part of that world, a very young such pest has come of age and, without understanding what it means, she walks in the shadow of destiny.

The demons have a lesson to learn, one last to be taught to them by humans, before they can call this world truly their own.

A cleansing fire can start from the smallest of sparks...and it is always darkest just before the dawn.

After "Heirs of Empire" I wasn't sure if I should read this book, since I was afraid that this will be very similar to mentioned above (with I wasn't found). Turns out to be very good. Nice characters with very interesting story. I liked the concept very much, nice ideas! I just can't wait for the next one. Well done! In mine opinion this book if way better than "Heirs of Empire" I had a feeling that this is how "heirs... " should look like. It takes 1 to 2 hours for this book to become very interesting and after that... Well grab one for yourself and have fun!

Great (audio) book.

Beleaguered humanity at war with ‘demons’ is the theme but there is so much more to enjoy.
Loved the interplay between the characters. Cassandra Campbell’s narration was superb. Looking forward to listening to the next book now!

Excellent performance all to often a good story is made unbearable by a poor narator. This was a good story made better by Ms Campbell.

Excellent performance

Story ticked along at a steady pace. No twists or unexpected turns in the plot. Characters were straight off the stereotype shelf, no real relationships between them. Narrator added some life by using accents. Might be a good read for a younger generation.

Ok, nothing special.
