The story was intriguing and so I kept going with it. However I found the narrator very difficult to listen to.

Narration is ok, though the distinction between spoken dialogue and Eric's thinking out loud, is not always obvious. The actual story is dreadfully predictable, and the main protagonist is annoying to the point you keep hoping he will either grow up, or just quietly expire. I suspect Mercedes Lackey had a minor hand in this. At least it was a freebie (and almost worth it).

Ever since I came across this narrator Kevin as Murderbot I have loved listening to his voice so I was delighted to come across this series also narrated by him. The story is great too so altogether this audio book is a joy looking forward to listening to the rest of the series
