About this listen

What’s Worse Than the End of the World? One Man is About to Find Out.

Frank just wants to hunt monsters in peace. He’s good at it and prefers to kill evil creatures alone. But when the power suddenly goes out, blazing rocks fall from the sky, and a stranded girl is thrust into his life, everything changes.

Now Frank finds himself tasked with defending a girl whose feistiness may prove more than a match for his hard edges. Even worse, his new companion is being hunted by a new threat — a monster Frank has never encountered… and may be unable to kill.

Can Frank survive a world-ending cataclysm, defeat unkillable monsters, and keep his companion safe from the creatures and herself, or will it all end in fire?

As a devoted werewolf enthusiast, I was eager to dive into this apocalyptic story, and overall, I found it quite compelling. The opening scene, where meteors rain down from the sky, causing all electronic devices in the area to cease functioning, was a striking and memorable way to set the tone. This story captured my attention from the very beginning.

While I would have loved to see more of the werewolf elements woven throughout the story—perhaps more transformations or pack dynamics—the narrative effectively kept me engaged with its unique plot twists and character interactions. The unlikely pairing of Frank and Jessie was one of the story’s highlights; their relationship brought an interesting depth and tension that kept me invested.

One of the things I really appreciated was the consistent presence of dogs throughout the book. Their inclusion added warmth and a sense of safety amidst the chaos, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

The narration was absolutely fantastic. The voice actor did a phenomenal job, especially in creating a stark contrast between Frank and Jessie's voices—it was so distinct and well-executed that it made following the story effortless and immersive. Didi’s voice, in particular, stood out as my favorite, perfectly capturing her personality and adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the listening experience.

Overall, this was a solid audiobook with excellent narration and memorable characters.
