Summary

Invisibility has been Clara’s go-to survival skill since childhood. So she hides behind her thick glasses and heavy fringe, working as a teaching assistant at the exclusive Molton Prep, happy with her seven-year-old pupils and avoiding their posh parents. Her one secret indulgence? Watching the gorgeous but wildly intimidating Lord Rafe Sterling sweep into school to collect his son.

Her crush on him is ridiculous. Lord Sterling is way older than her, aristocratic, terrifying, and tipped to be one of the UK’s youngest judges. Even if she did stand a chance, a girl with a background like hers should avoid him at all costs.

Rafe can’t believe the school has the balls to tell him he can’t meet the Miss Clara who told his son his brain “works differently”. Nobody refuses a meeting with Lord Sterling. But when he bulldozes his way past the rules to confront her, he’s shocked by how much the shy, mousy woman affects him. She might be too scared to make eye contact, but when it comes to defending his son, she’s surprisingly fierce. And after he convinces her to work as his son’s tutor and she gradually stops flinching in his presence, his obsession with her only grows.

As a rule, he gets what he wants, and Rafe wants Clara very badly. But he should be careful what he wishes for, because Clara Morris is not who she says she is. In his arrogance, he pushes her away, not realising that her fear runs deeper than simple shyness, not seeing the danger she’s in until it’s too late…

LAW MAKER is an opposites-attract, billionaire, age-gap, single-dad contemporary romance, perfect for fans of intense, protective heroes and heroines overcoming trauma to find their happily-ever-after.

The audio book was beautifully done - funny, full of feeling and well acted.

I listened to my first audiobook by this author, and overall, it was a really enjoyable experience. The storyline was engaging from the beginning, and I especially appreciated how thoughtfully the theme of domestic violence was portrayed. It felt realistic and handled with care, which added emotional depth to the story.

I also found the relationship between the main characters compelling. Their dynamic was well-developed and kept me invested throughout the book.

The only aspect that didn’t quite work for me was the female narration. During emotionally intense moments, particularly when the character was upset, the level of crying felt a bit overdone. At times, it became slightly overwhelming to listen to, and instead of feeling immersed, I found myself pulled out of the story and even a bit irritated. That said, I do think this is more about the narrator’s style rather than the character itself, as I’ve noticed a similar pattern in other audiobooks narrated by her.

Despite this, it was still a lovely audiobook overall, and I would definitely consider exploring more from this author in the future.

A compelling first read

Susie Tate has done it again. Every book of hers just get better and better. Rafe and Cara are the absolute opposite of each other but are oh so perfect together.
Cara's situation broke my heart. It was written so well though and totally captured the real and utterly horrific situation that so many people find themselves in every day.
This book is real and raw and heartbreaking but is so beautiful in its own way and I couldn't recommend it more.
Shane East and Zara Hampton-Brown delivered every line with so much emotion and made me enjoy the story even more.
