Summary

A victim on display. A detective on the rails.

Shopping with her sister, DI Amy Winter is admiring a Valentine’s Day window display of a perfect bride encrusted in diamonds and resplendent in lace - until she notices blood oozing from the mannequin’s mouth.

This is no stunt. A post-mortem reveals the victim was left to die on her macabre throne for all to see. When a second victim is found, it emerges that both women were "Sugar Babes" arranging dates with older men online - and Amy finds herself hunting an accomplished psychopath.

As she tracks down the killer, Amy’s instincts go into overdrive when the charismatic head of the agency behind the display makes no attempt to hide his fascination with her serial-killer parents. What exactly does he want from Amy? With her own world in freefall as her biological mother, Lillian Grimes, appeals her conviction, Amy pushes the boundaries of police procedure when a third "Sugar Babe" disappears...Is she as much at risk as the killer’s victims?

The twist in this one surprised me. The killer gets off on the death of his victims, but it’s why he has this specific ritual that will surprise you. Wanting to escape her past the lead officer chose this life to put away killers. But her family is thrown into her face often. The story does drag on a bit. The narration is nice and easy to listen to.

… but the breathy voice really annoys me - Amy Winter is a feisty detective with steely backbone and determination, so why in earth did anyone select such a feeble tone for the reader??
And, Caroline, please learn the difference between bring and take! I’m so enjoying the story line, but I find tripping over such basic grammatical errors ruins the flow.
Thank you

A very good crime thriller series, I like DI Amy Winter, her being the daughter of ‘the Beasts of Brentwood’ a serial killer couple, without a doubt gives her an insight into those her and her unit are tasked with catching but it can also make her a target for a twisted mind.

After stumbling across the first victim Amy pretty quickly suspects who the killer is but just how will she prove it?
Our insightful heroine will put her life on the line to catch the killer but has she gone too far out the lines this time?
The next book is already on my kindle.

Again this narrator does a brilliant job enabling you to become fully engrossed in the story.

Like the series and the plot development and although this was rather creepy was enticing too.
Only one niggle… surely the public would know Lillian’s culpability as she refused to give up the location of the bodies for decades despite jack being dead (book 1)….

Great book - enjoying this series

I can’t give a true review without creating a spoiler, but this book drove me crazy right up until the very last chapter. Read it and I think you’ll understand why - it’s the subplot and not the main story! I found it a little far fetched, but hey ho, we can’t always have it our way.
I love this narrator & can’t understand the criticism she receives. I think she’s perfect for the Amy Winter novels.
Another fabulous novel from Caroline Mitchell.
