Summary

On a desolate beach in far northern Scotland, the winter storms have been washing up all manner of things since time began. But buried in the centre of one smaller iceberg is a shard of ancient Viking pottery telling a partial tale of a hidden mysterious island beyond the ice and mist, that was home to a great treasure and even greater horrors.

Thawing in the same block of ice was a rotting flap of skin that refused to be identified but had similar skin patterns to a creature not seen for 100 million years.

Now, Troy Strom and the enigmatic Elle Burgan race to find the mysterious island of legend, while staying ahead of a group of brutal killers who claim to be the rightful owners of the greatest prize of all—Odin’s heart.

Since when was Belhaven Ale ‘lager’ !!??!!
WHY does Narrator use IRISH accent when gargling over SCOTTISH dialogue ??!!??

Don’t try to ’do’ Scotland, unless you REALLY know your stuff 😱

Surprisingly good for a re-telling of the classic idea.
Loved the Viking spin and the pacing.
The inevitable betrayal is a little forced but the characters are good.
Looking forward to the next books and more about the island.

Great setting and pace, a very good adventure.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author and I couldn’t put it down! It depicted a true fantasy world that became vivid and page turning. The Viking legend further transported me into this world….

A fantastic story of adventure

I enjoyed the story enough to keep going and wanting to listen to the next book, but the writing is terrible: From the bad puns, to the cheesy, unimaginative lines, to giving people dialogue they'd never use (one of the main characters is a Scottish professor who lives in Scotland and the author has her saying thing like "we'll take the red-eye", or making American Football metaphors which clearly she'd have no knowledge or understanding of.

halfway through the 2nd book, the story is weaker, but the first book at least was compelling enough.

as for the narrator, he's pretty dull, not to the point of being unlistenable, but not engaging

good story, poor writing and so-so narration

Hopefully the start of a good new series! Premise is very promising for future books.
