Summary

Lieutenant Eve Dallas puzzles over a bizarre suicide bombing in a Wall St. office building in Leverage in Death, the next in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from J.D. Robb...

For the airline executives finalizing a merger that would make news in the business world, the nine a.m. meeting would be a major milestone. But after marketing VP Paul Rogan walked into the plush conference room, strapped with explosives, the headlines told of death and destruction instead. The NYPSD’s Eve Dallas confirms that Rogan was cruelly coerced by two masked men holding his family hostage. His motive was saving his wife and daughter - but what was the motive of the masked men?

Despite the chaos and bad publicity, blowing up one meeting isn’t going to put the brakes on the merger. All it’s accomplished is shattering a lot of innocent lives. Now, with the help of her billionaire husband Roarke, Eve must untangle the reason for an inexplicable act of terror, look at suspects inside and outside both corporations, and determine whether the root of this crime lies in simple sabotage, or something far more complex and twisted.

I read the book because I love the previous books but this one was not as good. The focus was too much on police work and procedures and there was little of Eve's personal life and group of friends. Only one interaction with little Bella, not enough Summerset and Dallas insults and it feels as if Peabody was an afterthought. Looking forward to the next book to see if my favourite characters play a bigger part.

Okay book

I have now read every single one of this series and I still look forward with anticipation each new adventure. All the familiar cast are involved in a case involving murders, cruel and unthinkable choices and a twisted motive that is thoroughly wicked. There's even a trip to the Oscars, but not for Eve and Rourke. They have a murderous duo to apprehend. I still love these characters and once again wait eagerly for the next case.

Loved it!

I always get the In Death books on audiobook nowadays. I first read the series years ago when I got them out of library and really enjoyed them. Once I heard the superb Ms Ericksen’s reading of the more recent books I always bought the audio because she really enhances the experience of the books. Even if I go back and read older books on Kindle I hear Ms Ericksen’s voices in my head as I read.

This series has it’s ups and downs and some books aren’t as interesting as others but this is a good example of the series with an interesting set of crimes to solve but with enough Dallas and Roarke and their friends’ interaction to make you laugh. It’s also nice when there is conflict in friendships and relationships because all of the characters written in these books are strong personalities and there are bound to be clashes, which also keeps the books interesting.

I would say you might possibly be able to get away with enjoying the book if this is the first you read, but there is such a wide back catalogue that I would recommend you start at the beginning. You’ll enjoy it more. However, if you have read the books but not listened to the audio version, this is a good one to start with.

A great new addition to the In Death Series
