About this listen

From the author of the bestselling novel The Shack and the New York Times bestsellers Cross Roads and Eve comes a compelling, conversational exploration of twenty-eight assumptions about God—assumptions that just might be keeping us from experiencing His unconditional, all-encompassing love.

In his wildly popular novels, Wm. Paul Young portrayed the Triune God in ways that challenged our thinking—sometimes upending long-held beliefs, but always centered in the eternal, all-encompassing nature of God’s love.

Now, in Wm. Paul Young’s first nonfiction book, he invites us to revisit our assumptions about God—this time using the Bible, theological discussion, and personal anecdotes. Paul encourages us to think through beliefs we’ve presumed to be true and consider whether some might actually be false.

Expounding on the compassion fans felt from the “Papa” portrayed in The Shack—now a major film starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer—Paul encourages you to think anew about important issues including sin, religion, hell, politics, identity, creation, human rights, and helping us discover God’s deep and abiding love.

a book well worth reading and I shall read it several times I have enjoyed the way Paul Phrases things The explanation of word meaning and use, and the challenge of what I believe and why .

Thought provoking

In this instance it is really good to have the author read their own book, not always a fan, but he has a lovely voice and narrates well. This book is essentially a collection of what the author believes, with each chapter prefaced by a statement we believe about God, which he believes to be wrong. I have to say I agree with him wholeheartedly on most, and was excited to discover newer views I hadn’t even explored before on the other points. It is refreshing to have someone who is in the ‘deconstruction’ vein not having actually deconstructed themselves out of faith, and still really love God and the Bible and take both extremely seriously. The final chapter contains a lot of references to scripture, but the rest of the book was fairly light on it. This was so welcome to my soul. It made my heart feel happy. I find it so hard to reconcile teaching from the church with the idea of God as love - this was brilliant, please read/listen!

Balm for the soul

Most of the chapters of this book have been confirming what I already knew, but never heard from anyone else. The few chapters, that posed new things, challenge me to think and pray over the concerned matter.

Amazing truth.

I always love to hear the author read their own book. You get so much more from the read when you hear it in their own words.

Having been an evangelical Christian for 40 plus years I'm surprised at how blinded I have been by the absolute obvious that we find in scripture, all because of the dogma and doctrine of fear that is unfortunately alive and well in western evangelical church today. WAKE UP people and see the truth in this book for a fuller life in Jesus!

Wow... how could we have been so blind?!
