About this listen

Life Ventures & Other Stories is an intriguing compilation of personal life experience writings, inspirational stories and prayers, and fictional short stories dispensing mystery and amusement. This short prose genre book consists of three sections and is a unique blend of humor, revelation, and suspense.

Section one: "Life Adventures" shares life experiences through often humorous and entertaining personal essays.

Section two: "Inspiration" consists of enlivening short writings and personal prayers written over a lifetime by author Eric Von Jares.

The final section is a collection of short stories that deal with life issues of managing one's relationships, coping with grief, loss of faith, and self-esteem issues.

Eric Von Jares wrote his first creative work - a poem at age 15 - and became a lifelong fan of the written word. After attaining a graduate degree, he continued to write poetry, short stories, and magazine articles for national publications such as Parents Magazine and The Saturday Evening Post. His poetry book, Chronicles of a Romantic, is also now available along with other writings.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this audiobook pulled me in quick. The mix of humor and weirdly familiar situations reminded me of convos I’ve had with my uncle over coffee. It’s quirky in a good way. Perfect for when you're tired of the same predictable stuff and want something that actually keeps your attention.

unexpectedly relatable and oddly fun

Life Ventures & Other Stories’ surprised me with how wide-ranging it is. One moment I was smiling at a tender family scene, and the next I was pulled into a suspenseful twist. The author has a gift for shifting tones without losing consistency. While a couple of stories ended a bit abruptly for my taste, overall this is a strong, memorable collection.

In the second section, the book takes a more personal and soulful turn. This part of the collection has short writings and prayers that the author has crafted over a lifetime, and you can really feel the weight of that experience in the words. It’s a section that offers a sense of peace and revelation, and shows a much more vulnerable side of the author’s journey. Whether you’re looking for a moment of quiet reflection or a bit of spiritual encouragement, these pieces provide a grounded sense of wisdom.

I really enjoyed this book. The adventures the author has were both inspiring and reinforcing that we are not alone in this world. I laughed and cried and everything in between. The book is well written and super easy to follow. I really enjoyed the narration. I would read another from this author.

A lovely memoir
