Excellent gateway into the writings of David Gemmell and his regular elements of shades-of-grey warriors, redemption, the Source and Chaos, spirit travel and the Void.

Great Introduction to Gemmell

This could have been an exhilarating listen. Having read the book previously I knew what to expect in terms of plot and characters, both of which combined to make a superb book; but...but...but...whoever chose the narrator should have his ear twisted. There was neither the vocal range, the pace, nor listener engagement. I kept having to set bookmarks and rewind as the bland and boring tones sent me to sleep every time I tried to listen. It's a real shame as the tale deserved so much more.

Superb tale, ruined by the narrator

Excellent as always, very much enjoy all of David's forays into historical fantasy, leading the likes of Iggulden in historical fiction but with that distinct Gemmell edge. Thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the narration.

Great story very well read.

David gemmell crafts another great story based on a lot of historical fact and blends all the characters into a truly amazing story that is very well narrated , it’s worth reading it just for the end

Great story

The book is classic Gemmell leaning on his Source and Chaos theory in the Greek age. Superb storytelling at a blistering pace. The narrator takes a bit of getting used to but you soon find the rhythm of his lift at the end of each sentence.

A great telling of in unheard story
