Creeps under your skin and doesn't let you go
Bolton's haunting storylines, vivid characters, and just plain great writing put her in the top tier of psychological thriller writers
Addictive... leaves you guessing until the last line. This tear-jerker novel is one of the year's must reads
Claws at your heart. An ever creeping sense of dread rises from every page
A well-crafted cat’s cradle of lies and betrayals, but what makes this book special is Bolton’s vivid depiction of the place itself, whether it be the wildlife or the claustrophobic nature of human existence on a small island.
This tale will chill you to the bone
Achingly suspenseful . . . Bolton is a whizz at big finishes. Here her final chapters are like holiday fireworks going off, each kapow meant to be more spectacular than the last one
Her sharpest skills are in play . . . Crafty plotting
I loved it! I stayed up entirely too late and completely ignored my family. It is the perfect thriller. A riveting portrait of small town secrets and big time betrayals. Friends, lovers, neighbours, everyone has something to hide . . .
Faultless, brilliant . . . The tension racks up from page one and simply doesn't let up. This is absolutely superb!

I was hooked on this dark disturbing story straight away and initially would have rated it higher however I had to skip over three chapters because of the unnecessarily detailed descriptions of a pod of whales being killed - not something I enjoy hearing about. Towards the end the story is from Rachel's point of view - this was my least favourite part especially when she had imaginary talks with her horse! Both annoying and pointless - no idea why the author included this - just too bizarre for my liking.
This could have been brilliant but missed the mark.

Gripping, disturbing, unresolved

There are so many of this type of novel around just now but this one doesn't disappoint. Great writing, full of suspense, every time you think you know what's actually happened you find the details change and it's something you would never have expected, loved this book. Read it!

Excellent!

Good story, too much description, a bit slow moving with a good twist at the end.

Great book but too long

This book is incredible as are the narrator’s. Beautifully written, I love this author and this is definitely one her best. I can’t stop thinking about it, and the ending….
