Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Weiner, a “lively, witty, and often touching” (People) novel that tells the story of three very different women as they navigate one of life’s most wonderful and perilous transitions: the journey of new motherhood.

Becky is a plump, sexy chef who has a wonderful husband and baby girl, a restaurant that received a citywide acclaim, and the mother-in-law from hell. Kelly is an event planner who’s struggling to balance her work and motherhood while dealing with unemployed husband who seems content to channel-surf for eight hours a day. Ayinde’s basketball superstar husband breaks her trust at her most vulnerable moment, putting their new family even more in the public eye. Then, there’s Lia, a Philadelphia native who has left her Hollywood career behind, along with her husband, and a tragic secret to start her life all over again.

From prenatal yoga to postbirth sex, Little Earthquakes is a frank, funny, fiercely perceptive take on the comedies and tragedies of love and marriage.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Little Earthquakes?

Rebecca Rabinowitz's face-to-face address to her mother-in-law following her mother-in-law's decision to cut off her son and have nothing to do with him and Rebecca following the "Christmas" saga. Not many people would have chosen to act with such humility. I really expected a show down, expected that with the support of her husband, Rebecca would have put her mother-in-law in her place with some harsh words/truth. Instead she showed such humility and maturity, I could see why her husband was so in love with her.

Did Johanna Parker do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Yes. The characters had very distinctive qualities and life stories allowing the author to cover a wider range of challenges faced by women and particularly new mothers. It helped that the characters were strangers, unknown personally to each at the beginning of the book/story.

Could you see Little Earthquakes being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Yes, a movie or a tv mini-series. Katherine Heigl as Kelly Day and Alex Pettyfer or Kellan Lutz as her husband; Sanaa Lathan as Ayinde Towne and Rick Fox as her husband; Seth Rogen as Dr Rabonowitz, Camryn Manheim or Marissa Jaret Winokur as Rebecca; and Marla Sokoloff as Lia Frederick

Any additional comments?

This is a good book, the story is somewhat predictable but realistic and empowering.
