Summary

When billionaire Marsh's octogenarian grandmother summons him home for an urgent family dinner, he dreads being force-fed every embarrassing truth about his family he's tried to forget. Never mind that Thanksgiving weekend was when he planned to propose to his girlfriend, Jada, who knows nothing of the nine-figure fortune Marsh has hidden her away for years.

But the money may be the least of his problems - there's a reason why he's never brought Jada to Connecticut. The Brewsters are the special brand of crazy reserved for the ultra-rich. Subjecting his woke Black girlfriend to his stuffy old-money family seems like the least romantic way to kick off his proposal weekend. And after his family's shenanigans, will Jada even say yes?

This was my first listen by Kilby Blades. I enjoyed Jada & Marsh’s story. Marsh’s family didn’t make it easy for Jada but she’s a really strong woman & stood up for herself. Excellent narration by Tim Paige & Nicole Lewis.

This was my first Kilby Blades's book. This is the fourth book in the Gilded Love Series. This short novella is fun and entertaining. Marsh and Jada are interesting characters. Marsh's family is chaotic, definitely dysfunctional, and hilarious. I liked his grandmother. Tim Paige and Nicole Lewis did a good job with the narration.

This was a fun holiday listen. It's short and it did feel a bit rushed, as I find common in many novellas. I liked the bit of a slow burn but i'm not a fan of one partner withholding vital information of their background from the other - it's rather frustrating.

There's an interesting cast of characters and for the most part I liked Marsh and Jada. Overall, it's a fun quick read.

The narration by Tim Paige and Nicole Lewis was fantastic. They complimented each other well.

Marsh and Jada have been dating for a few years and he knows that she is the person he wants to spend his life way. Although she has met his parents, she has never met the rest of the family so when his beloved grandmother wants him to bring her for Thanksgiving, he can’t say no.

Jada is in for a few surprises not the least of which is that his family are conservative and beyond wealthy. Not only is his family is an eccentric group of characters but she finds herself reeling from the surprises that continue to be unveiled and has her wondering who Marsh really is.

The performance of the narrators is both entertaining and humorous as they ensured the wild and wacky characters felt real.

This one missed the mark for me I'm afraid. I listened to the audiobook as a Tim Paige fan and a new listener to Nicole Lewis both performed the novella well. I have never read a book by Kilby Blades before so I am unsure if this story leads off a main novel in the Gilded Love series but the ending sure made it feel unfinished and that it leads to a full length novel moving forward, which I would have preferred to know going in.

I got the premise of the story. The hero Marsh is from an old money family and is called home by his grandmother to a big family dinner and takes his fiancée along to meet the family for the first time. My issue was I just did not connect to the main characters at all. There were too many secondary characters I lost track of who was who and I gave up trying to keep track, my mind was blown. I think it's one I would need to listen to a few times for the volume of characters sinks in. So when the ending blow up between the hero and heroine came I was more annoyed I wasn't getting a rounded up story than I was about the couple not getting their HEA. I guess you really need to go into this one having read the previous books in the series to gain that connection and love for the story that was just missing for me.

A series you need to follow from book 1
