Summary

Book three in the gripping supernatural series by the best-selling author of the Chronicles of St Mary's series.

I don't know who I am. I don't know what I am.

The identity of Elizabeth Cage has always been a mystery. Even she doesn't know who, or what, she is. But she's learned to live with it.

Until now, when what should have been a peaceful holiday turns into anything but, and Elizabeth is forced to recognise that she isn't what she seems.

But neither is anyone else. Has her whole life been a lie?

Someone very badly wants to know the truth about Elizabeth Cage. And they'll do anything to find out. But who will live to regret it?

Twisty, dark and incredibly gripping, the Elizabeth Cage novels are perfect for fans of Sarah Painter and Genevieve Cogman.

I really love Elizabeth Cage and her relationship with Michael Jones. She’s a very likeable and relatable character. I feel this series has found it’s place with this third novel. The truth behind her revealed and how she now embraces it. Imagine my excitement when the names of two children had both my names. Ok, so they were really a bit of a MacGuffin and died horribly…but who cares. I’m inadvertently in the pages of one of my favourite authors.

I’m so glad Jodi Taylor decided to write another story for this heroine. It feels there are plenty more adventures for her. Iblis and Maleck in particular ( no idea how they’re spelt) are really developed here. The relationship with Michael Jones is so tantalising.

Smashing tale. Twisting turning whiplashing!
I wish Zara had read them all, she is truly a master voice artist as at no point did I think I was listening to TCoSM. Am looking forward to book four next year.
Epic!

Ah Zara Ramm, thank goodness!

I very much enjoy Jodi Taylor's works and love the way she creates characters that come to life in my mind.
I also think Zara Ramm is an amazing narrator. Where I struggled a little with this production, is for me, Zara Ramm is Max, so listening to her narrating a completely different series was a bit of a challenging. For large chunks of the book I found it hard focus that Cage was the main character and kept expecting characters from St Mary's to make an appearance, which was a little distracting.
I think I would have enjoyed this one more if I had read rather than listened to the story.

Enjoyable

I listened to all three books in a row, and this one brings a kind of closure to the mystery of Elizabeth's powers. However, there are some things not revealed and the ending suggests that another book (or several) is possible.
Overall this is an enjoyable listen, made easier by having Zara Ramm narrate the story (Julie Teal just didn't work!).
Fans of Jodi Taylor will recognise some familiar plot lines and twists and turns. However, unlike the St Mary's series the historical background to this series take you into an imagined world of myth and legend. This is where the book is weakest- the 'good and bad' historical battles played out in the background are the authors own invention rather than based on history as we know it. This led to the final reveal of Elizabeth's history to be somewhat of a disappointment.
While I have enjoyed the series, I'm not sure I'll stay the course for book 4.

So that is Elizabeth's secret!
