Critic reviews

"Burns with the luminosity of faith in the invincible nature of human hope and dignity....Unforgettable" (Andre Brink)

"Enthralling.... Mandela emulates the few great political leaders such as Lincoln and Gandhi, who go beyond mere consensus and move out ahead of their followers to break new ground." (Sunday Times)

I have long wanted to read this book, when I found I could listen to it and it was read by Danny Glover I jumped at the chance to get it. I could listen to this audiobook for hours with Danny Glover reciting the African names so easily and making me believe I was in Nelson Mandela's thoughts when he wrote this book.

It has an added bonus at the end where you can listen to the actual speech Nelson Mandela gave during his inauguration as President of South Africa.

I extremely enjoyed listening to this audiobook and would buy more as it is a way to relax and have another voice to capture my imagination.

An Amazing story read by an easy listening voice

Wow. What a story. Inspiring, sad, happy I am not sure what. How a man who had been shackled for so long could be so forgiving and therefore offer so much hope is completely inspirational. It makes me so sad to know that this went on and still goes on.

Incredible

Enjoyed the story after initially struggling with the narrators' accent. Being familiar with the South African accent, pronunciation of some of the names took away from authenticity of the story for me. Beyond that, brilliant listen.

Fantastic Insight into the great man.

This is a book you must read as part of a “must read” collection. Danny Glover reads beautifully and you may shed a tear or two at what Mr Mandela, the ANC and all the people of SA managed to achieve in our lifetime. Just amazing.
