About this listen

Most people can’t farm experience in their sleep… or without leaving their room.

The 42nd Merging arrives, mass-transporting every human to a hostile new world with a System. Everyone must choose a Class, and Quest directives compel them to climb the leaderboards for categories like highest level… and most kills of other people.

Jordan isn’t anyone special before the Merging, but the new start equalizes the playing field. He must exploit his versatile class to overcome powerful monsters and opportunistic strangers who kill people as a quick path to power.

He’ll find that the greatest threat may not be monsters or humans but hostile alien species added in the Merging. Sharing the leaderboards and the same final prize, they will stop at nothing to wipe out the competition.

For Jordan, surviving isn’t enough. The System promises unfathomable power to those who embrace it and distinguish themselves. To do so requires more than personal strength. Jordan must establish dominion over the new world, defending his territory and expanding it so that he alone reigns above all.

With the power of multitasking and a summonable army, how hard can it be?

Is this the next block buster LitRPG franchise? Probably not. Is the author brilliant? Nope. Is it free of flaws? Oh no, it's small world trope from start to finish.

BUT. It's competently written and the "villains" are extremely well done. The accents were, really just spot on. Worth it for that alone.

Can't say I was paying much attention while it was in the background though. Great "life filler".

Solid enough

This is a very generic and normal LitRPG book with levels, classes and a progression system. The book is not really uniqe in the genre and has a lot of generic, but quality proven content. The progression system is interesting and the mc is a character that i enjoyed following.

However, the story is really slow. It takes a long time to explain really simple stuff and the narration part of the story (and inner toughts of the mc) are reflecting on things for too long. It gets to the point were i want to skip, but that always just ruins the story. The progression of the story is also slow. It takes a long time for anything to really happen.

The narrator himself, Christian J. Gilliland, does a good job with the voices and characters. However the editing of the book has some noice and voice issues. Sometimes a part of the book is a mix between the system narration and the characters voice talking which is a bit wierd. There are also some minor noice problems in the book.

Overall, if you dont mind the grinding parts of the book and you like a lot of reflection and tought that goes into every move of the mc, then this is going to be a good book for you.

… but its not very good either. Lots of tell not showing, and being stuck in the internal monologue of someone who feels the need to stop every 5 minutes and explain the implications of things that just happened.

The powers/magic/techno system is fun, and the overall idea is really cool, but just getting past the initial 10 chapters or so is a drag.

This could just be me, and thats why it got better than a single star- that and the narration isn’t the worst, but even then I’ve listen to this narrator read before and do it far better :/ that just might be because the books he narrated were far better IDK.

TLDR;
Not the worst book, but falls for the far too much uninteresting internal monologue trap a lot of amateur LitRPG fall for- great story idea, flawed execution.

Honestly- not the worst book…

I really like the story, different kind of summoning then usual, like the afk farming theme.

Like it

There is almost nothing happening for hours in the book. Example, an entire chapter is dedicated to the mc coming up with a single name.

Lord of inner monologues
