Really enjoyed listening to this book, feel like I'm getting more out of this series by listening to it, than I did when I read it.

Makes me want to listen/read the books that are mentioned. I've seen an adaptation of Great Expectations but not read one, will add it to my list, likewise The Raven.

I have read all the Thursday Next stories and some of Jasper Ffordes other books, like the nursery crimes series. And thought it would be good to have them on talking book, the books themselves don’t disappoint. They are well read and nicely paced my only issue is the audio itself. It drops out on some chapters and sounds mufffled and soft almost as if it was a first draft and they forgot to re-do it.

I didn't like the comparison between a dyslexic person and a neanderthol. It was at best patronizing.

This book builds Nicky on its predecessor and the author has the great skill of not rushing to where you expect to be but instead let’s the story breathe and expand at a decent pace without ever feeling like it want to be anywhere but where it is. In other hands it might rush out of the real world and head long into books which could easily end up making the whole idea become a bit tired and over used. Instead there is a deft touch giving a nice balance of the real world (as strange as it is to us) and the book world. The antagonist isn’t nearly as strong or interesting as the Eyre Affair but strangely it doesn’t really matter at the character of Thursday is enough to drive the plot forward without a particularly strong enemy but instead a series of improbable events and the vague notion that the end of there world is looming. The resolution is very deus ex machina but the tone of the book embraces this and so it all fits rather nicely.

A great performance caps off what is a thoroughly enjoyable sequel.

I'm even more in love with Thursday Next and Pickwick. Excellent writing, wonderful narration and fantastic story. I can't wait for the next installment.
