Summary

The Main and Hazard families clash on and off the Civil War’s battlefields as they grapple with the violent realities of a divided nation.

America's master storyteller continues his reign with Love and War, a story steeped in passion and betrayal. With the Confederate and Union armies furiously fighting, the once-steadfast bond between the Main and Hazard families continues to be tested. From opposite sides of the conflict, they face heartache and triumph on the frontlines as they fight for the future of the nation and their loved ones.

With his impeccable research and unfailing devotion to the historical record, John Jakes offers his most enthralling and enduring tale yet.

Once again Jakes does not disappoint. a fantastic story again. You really do go through this ride with the characters and at some points the story actually has you gasping aloud. Grover narrates this brilliantly... though his English accent is hilarious and makes dick van dyke sound like a Londoner but to be fair, there are many characters and accents so he all in all he does a great job. highly recommended!

Another excellent presentation of an amazing story

Excellent historical story really well documented. Sometimes a bit long. Otherwise very enjoyable.
A real pleasure to follow the story of the first book’s protagonists.

Great history and narrative

I know nothing really about the US civil war except from Gone with wind. Which in my opinion was a fabulous book. But this story and the authors comments are really giving me an insight into the machinations of the time period. How horrible it must have been and how it still has an impact on American lives. Civil war is the most horrible I feel. England has its share too as do a lot of countries. I don’t understand why men continue to desire the path of war? It seems it’s a lesson that isn’t learned. Perhaps it’s just purely the human condition ?

Intricate story giving me loads of info

I found myself digging deeper quite often during this reading to find out more than I already knew. I love facts wrapped up in story and learning about ordinary lives of the period. That said, I would urge the reader to listen to the afterword from the author and his explanation of how and why things were included. After a short time I shall move onto book 3 and hopefully still be forgiving of a few of the narrator’s strange accents ( there’s not enough to spoil it though and I found the narrator easy to listen to now as in book 1).

Great characters make for a great story.

This part is amazing, but not as good as North and South.
