Summary

A new collection of stories, including some that have never before been seen, from the New York Times best-selling author of the Silo trilogy

Hugh Howey is known for crafting riveting and immersive tales of boundless imagination, spawning millions of fans worldwide, first with his best-selling novel Wool, and then with other enthralling works such as Sand and Beacon 23. Now comes Machine Learning, an impressive collection of Howey's science fiction and fantasy short fiction, including three stories set in the world of Wool, two never-before-published tales written exclusively for this volume, and 15 additional stories collected here for the first time. These stories explore everything from artificial intelligence to parallel universes to video games, and each story is accompanied by an author's note exploring the background and genesis of each story.

Howey's incisive mind makes Machine Learning: New and Collected Stories an addictive and thought-provoking selection of short works - from a modern master at the top of his game.

I don't usually enjoy short stories as much as I enjoyed this collection. I describe all of why, but Hugh Howeys explanations to each piece is important.

Best anthology

Great book of short stories. Always enjoy his work and love the fact he linked a few stories back to Wool.

Love this author

I found Howey by watching Silo on prime. Suggested by Stephen King.
Then I listened to all 3 books on audible and LOVED them. I go through about 5 books a week so finding a new author I like is always exciting.
So I looked at what else he had on audible and saw machine learning. I almost skipped it. I dislike short stories and in fact prefer a series of books. I like to really get to know the characters and for the story to have some meat.
I have even avoided Kings short stories, as the ones I've tried of his I didn't enjoy.

Well, wow. Every short story blew me away. Not only were they thought provoking, interesting and enjoyable but they were parts of the author.. I feel I got to know him as a person, and the way he thinks about things. The authors notes were absolute gold. If I could think of more ways to say how brilliant I thought it was, I would but I'm no writer!
Definitely worth a credit.

Wow! Short Stories are all Amazing!

Totally unexpected - was an Audible recommendation. Really interesting collection of short stories that were engaging and well read. Highly recommended for anyone who likes stories that make you think or see the world from a different perspective. Much less to do with the maths and science of machine learning or AI

Great collection of thought provoking stories

Aside from Hugh Howey's Wool series, I knew little of his other works and even less about the author himself.

This collection of scifi short stories has plenty of drama, intensity and intrigue. Afterwords by Howey himself make each story that much more thought provoking and I would highly recommend if you are looking for something to dip in and out of, or binge in a day. Excellent all round!

Intense and intriguing. Sci-fi at its best
