Summary
For the first time, a blistering, highly charged account from the man known as 'Marine A' who was at the centre of the controversial murder of a wounded Taliban fighter. His case led to an unprecedented wave of public support which raised over £800,000 to fund his appeal. The nerve-shredding situations Sgt. Blackman operated within, under sustained attack for long periods, living in the unrelenting horror of a theatre of war, took their toll mentally and physically.
©2019 Sergeant Alexander Blackman (P)2019 W. F. Howes LtdThere is at least one part of the book where the narrator starts reading an sentence and part way through it stops, briefly goes silent and then starts a new sentence leaving the first one incomplete.
There are also many occasions where the same sentence is restarted part way through - lazy editing.
I assume that it was the authors choice not to narrate his book but it would help if there was some involve who had a modicum of knowledge of the military to assist. The narrator mispronounces numerous place names and many simple military terms and names that detract from the story.
Casevac (Casualty Evacuation) was pronounced case-vac, Corps (Reference to the Royal Marines) was pronounced corpse amongst many other terms.
I enjoyed the story but did not enjoy the way it was read.
Interesting book spoilt by the narrator

I knew very little of Claire and Al's story, as they discussed throughout their journey they are very private. Private they maybe, humble they most definitely are.
During my listening and hearing their journey, I travelled it with them, the many experiences they shared of their emotions, their love and mostly commitment to each other with a ' Never give up' attitude.
The uncanny excited laugh when Al realised he had not been mamed, to the heart wrenching reality of what the judicial system exposed on them.
I can only commend them and all the supporters for the what good was gained by all, from those who tried to take it away and break them.
Good will always come up tops!
Al, Claire, thank you for sharing your story.
Respect and Kind Regards
Joy
