About this listen

Nikolai: She came to my territory to spy on me. No one does that and lives. But this girl, she's a rare beauty. She's a temptation I have to conquer, and so I make her an offer. My mark, on her skin. The Volkov family insignia tattooed on her shoulder, to tell the world she's mine, and she earns my protection.

It starts out as a game but becomes an obsession. Trouble is, I can't tell who is winning the game.

Sienna: As a low-level street informant, I thought I'd finally gotten out and could resume my life, but I was mistaken. My handler had one last job for me. He wanted me to worm my way into the world of Nikolai Volkov, Slovakian arms dealer and a very bad person. The first day of working at his mysterious Club V, I knew I was in over my head. Powerful, beautiful, and full of charismatic energy, he enticed me and terrified me.

So here I am. He says he will protect me, so long as I wear his mark and become his.

At first, I try to tell myself I can play his twisted games, but as time goes on, he takes over my body, my heart, and now he wants my very soul.

Nikolai Volkov is either going to be my downfall, or my savior, and I don't know which.

Contains mature themes.

Easy read, good premise… but very been there, done that.

The setup definitely pulled me in, and it is still a good, enjoyable read… perfect if you want something quick and not too heavy. But it leans hard into cliché and never really breaks out of it. I kept waiting for something to twist or deepen… and it just didn’t quite get there.

Main characters? A bit frustrating. They felt a little too simple and predictable, which made it harder to fully connect.

That said… it’s still one of those books you can get through in a couple sittings and enjoy for what it is.

👉 Enjoyable? Yes.
👉 Memorable? Not really.

The story is severely hindered by the male narrator. Is it an AI? It’s very robotic. The female voice is fine but there is something very wrong with the male voice.

I enjoyed the story, but gave up with the audio book and read it on kindle instead. The female audio was good, but the male was so robotic that it sounds like a sat nav / computer is reading it. (sorry!)

Good story, poor reading
