About this listen

A Caribbean cruise opens a widow’s heart to a love she never expected in a breathtaking novel about second chances by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Catherine Bybee.

Mari D’Angelo’s life is complete. Her children are all married. Two grandbabies fill her days, with two more on the way, and her thriving family restaurant is running on autopilot. Not once in the ten years since she’s become a widow has Mari considered another love of her own. Until she sets sail on a singles cruise to placate her recently divorced best friend. Then James comes crashing into Mari’s world.

Charming, witty, and with two daughters of his own, James isn’t looking for love either. But Mari is as irresistible as she is beautiful. As their simmering attraction grows, Mari’s resolve to ignore the spark James has ignited slowly breaks away. She promised her beloved late husband she’d find someone new. Maybe that impossible day has come.

Knowing her protective sons would not approve, Mari chooses to keep the romance a secret. After all, there is no reason for her family to know about James if their relationship doesn’t work out. It’s up to James to prove he can be trusted with the heart of a woman he’s come to cherish. But without her family’s approval, their love doesn’t stand a chance.

I have to admit that when this Author told us about her intention to tell this story, I wasn’t as enthusiastic as I was about the other books. I realise now my fears were unfounded. Mari although a very strong character has a heart of gold and has lived a life none would envy losing her husband so young and raising three children by herself. I loved the approach that Catherine took in writing this book. It wasn’t self pitying or sickly sweet. It told the tail of a woman used to her life and not expecting anything extra, especially after losing the love of her life. James was a different story. And I love the way they found each other. There was laughter there was drama and of course the D’Angelo sons. You can always count on those two for entertainment. I’m really sad if this is finally the end of the series because I wouldn’t mind seeing if Rosa finds someone now. As always, the audible narration was superb. It totally enhances my enjoyment of the book. I can’t wait to see what Catherine writes next. Fabulous book.

James and Mari’s romance was truly a pleasure to listen to. It’s lovely to see how Mari finds love again after the death of her husband. The pace of this story worked and fit perfectly in the growing relationship between the two leads slow and steady and very passionate. I really hope Ms Bybee shares with us a story that sees Rosa finding her own happy ever after. Brilliant narration by Devon Sovari.
